Commentary

The ACT is expected to experience significant changes in its demographic profile over time.

  • Between 2017 and 2059 the proportion of older adults aged 65 years is expected to increase from 13.1% to 21.9%.
  • Between 2017 and 2059 the proportion of persons aged 15-64 years is projected to decrease from 68.2% to 61.5%.
  • Between 2017 and 2059 the proportion of children aged 14 years and under is projected to decrease from 18.7% to 16.6%.
